Care Access Research, Ogden is an independent Gastroenterology research center specializing in Phase II – IV clinical trials. We are integrated with the private practice of our investigators and are conveniently located in the heart of Ogden, where we serve a population of over 82,000 people. With the ability to treat a broad range gastrointestinal conditions, we continue in our mission to make clinical trials an accessible care option for all patients.


Our dedicated research staff has over 50 combined years of research experience. Our gastroenterology experience includes Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Eosinophic Esophagitis, and C. difficile. Additional areas of interest include but are not limited to NASH, Barrett’s esophagus, and H. pylori.


We offer convenient outpatient facilities with on-site blood draws, IV infusion capabilities, as well as dedicated pharmacy staff. Our waiting area is spacious and comfortable providing a TV, reading materials, snacks, and beverages for our patients and visitors.

Our dedicated research space includes multiple exam rooms and a locked, temperature monitored ambient, refrigerated, and frozen IP storage area. The facility maintains a locked study document storage area as well as a comfortable monitoring area with access to telephone, copier, fax, and high-speed internet connection.

Dedicated research equipment includes a centrifuge, -20oF locked freezer, locked refrigerator, locked drug storage cabinet, ECG machine, back-up power with power outage alarm, blood pressure and vitals unit, and crash cart.

In addition to our Gastroenterologist research team, our site maintains relationships with radiologists, endoscopy facilities, and cardiologists.


Chad Gonzales, MD, Principal Investigator: Dr. Gonzales is a board-certified gastroenterologist with over 13 years of clinical experience. He is actively involved as an instructor of GI endoscopy and Adjunct Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Utah. Although he treats all GI afflictions, Dr. Gonzales specializes in Hepatitis, GI functional disease, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) including Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn’s.

Peder J. (PJ) Pedersen, MD, Sub-Investigator: Recognized as a top enroller in multiple trials, Dr. Pedersen is a gastroenterologist practicing for over 25 years at multiple office locations; over 6 of these years he has been active in clinical research. He has affiliations with multiple local hospitals and is the past President of Utah Gastroenterology. Dr. Pedersen is invested in the future of medicine through his research activities as well as an active educator for the Crohn’s and Colitis Association of America.


Our PI’s are well respected in the community with a long-standing reputation of providing high quality care to their patients. Our site has a large patient database, additionally we maintain relationships with local hospitals, endoscopy centers, specialists, and other gastroenterologists, helping us to maintain a large recruitment potential.

We have dedicated support staff for budget and contract negotiations, regulatory submissions to central IRB’s, patient recruitment, equipment management, and IT support. We benefit from the additional capabilities provided by the Care Access Research national network of sites.
