EvergreenHealth Research Program (EHRP) provides access to current clinical research drug trials, and our research demonstrates how our care impacts the quality of life of our patients.

Our research team includes nationally-recognized physicians specializing in movement disorders, neurorehabilitation, chronic heart failure, invasive and interventional cardiology, diagnostic radiology, and laser coagulation surgical treatment for Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome.

EvergreenHealth has been active in clinical research since 1989 and established EvergreenHealth Research in 2007, combining the MS Hub and the Parkinson's Disease Research Department. The Hope Heart Institute incorporated their cardiology research program, Eastside Cardiology Associates, into the EvergreenHealth Research Program, becoming EvergreenHealth Cardiology Care in 2012. EvergreenHealth Research Program now supports a broader range of medical research, including Hospice/Home Care, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Oncology, Plastic Surgery, and Sport & Spine. Our neuroscience center's research physicians have extensive knowledge in numerous areas of neurological care and rehabilitation, many having greater than 20 years of research experience.


EvergreenHealth system operates a 318-bed EvergreenHealth Medical Center located east of Seattle, WA, and is the cornerstone of King County Public Hospital District No. 2. Its more than 900 providers offer a full range of primary and specialty healthcare services through seven primary care clinics, two emergency departments and two urgent care clinics. EvergreenHealth receives more than 300,000 primary care and outpatient visits each year, with more than 15,000 adult and pediatric hospital admissions. The patient care population includes over 2,000 neuroscience patients, 2,000 cancer patients, 15,000 surgical patients, and more than 6,500 home health patients. Other key facility features include:

  • Research exam rooms within the clinic for research study patients
  • Patient accommodations to include overnight beds and showers
  • Dedicated lab space with -30 degree and - 70-degree freezers, refrigerated centrifuge, and ECG machines
  • On-site Point of Care Testing through CLIA-certified Research Laboratory
  • Dedicated Research pharmacy
  • Ability to use a Central Institutional Review Board (IRB) simultaneously with contract/budget negotiations.
  • Access to Ancillary Departments including Radiology, Lab, and Infusion Centers, all within the main hospital.
  • Conference room with the ability to connect to internet and conduct meetings (SIVs, etc.)

Pinky Agarwal, MD, FAAN, Investigator
Dr. Agarwal is a board-certified neurologist, fellowship-trained in Movement Disorders at The Neurological Institute at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Her interests include Parkinson's disease, dystonia, essential tremor, restless legs syndrome, deep brain stimulation for dystonia, tremor and Parkinson's disease, cerebellar ataxia, Huntington's disease, Botox injections for spasticity and dystonia, tic/Tourette's syndrome, and myoclonus. Dr. Agarwal has been the principal investigator on numerous clinical trials, was previously Director of Clinical Research at The Colorado Neurological Institute, and a current Medical Director at Booth Gardner Parkinson's Care Center at EvergreenHealth. Dr. Agarwal is also a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington.

Theodore R. Brown, MD, MPH, Investigator
Dr. Brown is a board-certified member of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He earned his medical degree at Harvard in 1989, followed by internship and residency at University of Washington, a Master of Public Health at UC Berkeley and most recently, a fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis at the UW. He also completed a Heiser Fellowship for research in Leprosy and Tuberculosis at Chiang Mai University in Thailand, a Paul Dudley White Fellowship at Kyoto University in Japan and a David Boren Graduate fellowship in Thailand and California. Dr. Brown has numerous publications on topics including the role of exercise in MS and has several research projects involving rehabilitation in MS. He has served as Director of Neurorehabilitation at EvergreenHealth since 2009.

Daniel Burdick, MD, Investigator
Dr. Burdick is a Movement Disorders neurologist for EvergreenHealth's Booth Gardner Parkinson's Care Center. He completed his neurology residency at the Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, having obtained his M.D. from John Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Burdick serves on the Board of Directors of the Washington State chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Washington. Dr. Burdick's interests include Parkinson's disease; deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease, dystonia, tremor, hemifacial spasm, blepharospasm, spasticity, ataxia, Huntington's disease and other forms of chorea, tic disorders including Tourette's syndrome, and myoclonus.

Alida Griffith, MD, Investigator
Dr. Griffith is a Movement Disorders neurologist for Booth Gardner Parkinson’s Care Center, fellowship-trained at Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She obtained her Medical Doctorate from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Her expertise includes Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, patient selection for deep brain stimulation surgery and post-surgical management of deep brain stimulators, as well as the administration of Botox injections for dystonia, blepharospasm, and hemifacial spasm. Dr. Griffith is a principal investigator for multiple movement disorder clinical research trials at EvergreenHealth Medical Center and a co-Medical Director for Booth Gardner Parkinson’s Care Center.

Virginia I. Simnad, MD. MSc. Investigator
Dr. Simnad specializes exclusively in the management of multiple sclerosis. Her practice focuses on providing a multi-disciplinary approach to care and opportunities to participate in clinical research and therapeutic trials. Dr. Simnad earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993, and her experience in MS care began in 1999 as founder and medical director of the James Q. Miller Consultative MS Clinic at the University of Virginia. She joined the MS Center at EvergreenHealth in May 2009 as the Medical Director for Neurology.

David Likosky, MD, SFHM, Investigator
Dr. Likosky is the Medical Director for EvergreenHealth Neuroscience Institute and the EvergreenHealth Stroke Program. He also works as a hospitalist/neuro hospitalist and vascular neurologist for EvergreenHealth Medical Center. Dr. Likosky graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed his neurology and internal medicine residencies at the University of Washington and University of Arizona, respectively. He holds board certifications in adult neurology, internal medicine with a focused practice in hospital medicine, and a special certification in vascular neurology. He is also the co-founder of The Neurohospitalist Society.

Mark R. Vossler, MD, FACC, Investigator
Dr. Vossler is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology, and his practice focuses on general cardiology, chronic heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and echocardiography. He graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and completed his fellowship at Oregon Health Sciences University. He is a fellow the American College of Cardiology and member of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Vossler has led several clinical trials for EvergreenHealthand is currently the Medical Director of Clinical Cardiovascular Services at EvergreenHealth.

Edward Kim, MD, Investigator
Dr. Kimreceived his undergraduate degree from Yale University and earned his MD from the University of Pennsylvania. He trained in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the J. David Gladstone Institute. He is board certified in internal medicine and interventional cardiology and has authored numerous articles regarding basic mechanisms of cholesterol metabolism and cell signaling.

Jennifer M. Lee, M.D., Investigator

Dr. Jennifer Lee is board certified in Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. She earned her M.D. from Creighton University School of Medicine and completed her residency and fellowship at the University of Washington. After training in both anesthesiology and pain management at the University of Washington, Dr. Lee began her career as an acting instructor at Seattle Children's and as faculty in pain management at Swedish Medical Center. After several years, she focused on adult patients and initiated the Ketamine infusion program at Swedish Medical Center. She also taught ultrasound-guided interventional procedures to other doctors for several years through the World Association for Ultrasound in Pain Medicine. While continuing to work, Dr. Lee has contributed to committees aiming to standardize and optimize care pathways for chronic low back pain.

Martin P. Walker, M.D., Investigator
Dr. Walker is one of the few surgeons in the U.S. trained in the laser coagulation surgical treatment for Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome. He received his medical training from King’s College Hospital in London and attended the University of Toronto and the University of California, San Diego, for his residency and fellowship.Dr. Walker’s medical interests include fetal diagnosis and therapy, including chorionic villous sampling, fetoscopy and placental vessel laser ablation for Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome. He is also the Medical Director for Eastside Maternal Fetal Medicine and has been a clinical assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Washington for 15 years.

Roberta H. deRegt, M.D., Investigator
Dr. deRegt practices perinatology at Eastside Maternal Fetal Medicine and her interests include prenatal ultrasound and fetal diagnosis, twin gestation and nutrition, prematurity prevention and smoking cessation. She earned her M.D. from Brown University and completed her residency and fellowship at State University Hospital in New York. She has held faculty positions at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine, and the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Raymond D. Park, M.D.
Dr. Ray Park is board certified in Sleep Medicine and Neurology. He completed his neurology training at the University of Washington. Dr. Park earned his M.D. from Chicago Medical School and completed the residency at the Yale-affiliated Norwalk Hospital. He has a General Neurology private practice and also practices sleep medicine at Evergreen Sleep Disorders Center.


EvergreenHealth Research has highly-trained personnel who are educated on a vast assortment of research specialties. EHRP currently employs seven Research Coordinators with senior CRC experience; all are Medical Assistant Certified and trained in phlebotomy. Support staff are also available to assist with data entry, study start-up and financial/billing support including auditing. Our Research staff is skilled in writing research protocols for Investigator-Initiated trials (IITs), and a statistician is also available for all IITs. Staff time on team ranges from 2 years to over 10 years.


EvergreenHealth Research Program recruits participants from the patient population of EvergreenHealth Medical Center, including from EvergreenHealth Neuroscience, Spine & Orthopedic Institute, both at the Booth Gardner Parkinson's Care Center and the MS Center at Evergreen. EvergreenHealth Research Program also utilizes participants from EvergreenHealth Cardiology Care, among other practices. Participants are at least 18 years old in most cases, and generally, reside in the Pacific Northwest/Greater Seattle metropolitan area.

EvergreenHealth Research Program also oversees many off-site trials, providing regulatory and patient support. Patients for these trials are primarily recruited from Greater Seattle area clinics.


EvergreenHealth Research utilizes both central and local IRBs.
