First Urology Clinical Research is an active division of First Urology, PSC (formerly Metropolitan Urology and Allied Urology). The practice consists of eight physicians and three advanced registered nurse practitioners in both the Louisville, Kentucky and Southern Indiana area. The practice, which opened in 1979 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, currently has 14 satellite locations throughout the metropolitan area. In 2006, the corporate headquarters, including the research department, relocated to a 35,000 square-foot state-of-the-art innovative building in Jeffersonville, IN. The practice has approximately 100,000 active patient charts and the providers see a weekly average of 1200 patients. The First Urology research department is housed in a 2,500 square foot segment of the corporate headquarters with dedicated separate patient waiting facilities, exam rooms, and conference areas. The center has on-site CT scans, ultrasonography, laboratory with full-time phlebotomy, urodynamics, prostate ultrasonography with biopsy, cystoscopy, bladder scans,-20 degree and -70 degree freezers, centrifuges, secure drug storage, as well as on-site secure document storage, and dedicated monitor areas with high-speed ethernet.

The medical director, James L Bailen M.D. FACS, CPI, is board-certified in Urology and began conducting clinical research in 1995. Debbie Johnson, CCRC, is the Director of Research. She has four full-time research coordinators and a patient recruiter.
