Lake Charles Clinical Trials (LCCT) is the only research clinic specializing in psychiatric clinical trials in Southwest Louisiana (servicing a catchment area of over 200,000). Dr. Yadalam and research staff retain privileges at a full-service hospital, located 4 miles from the study site, which includes access to a 46-bed inpatient psychiatric unit accommodating child, adult and geriatric patients.


Phase II - IV clinical trials for adults and adolescents in the following diagnoses:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Major depression
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders

LCCT has worked with over 30 different pharmaceutical companies, including AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Janssen/Johnson & Johnson, Ortho-McNeil, Eli Lilly, Shire, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Wyeth, Sunovion, Merck, Otsuka, Lundbeck, Boehringer Ingelheim, Takeda, and Forest Research / Actavis. LCCT has also worked with various Clinical Research Organizations (CROs), including Quintiles, Covance, INC Research, and Parexel, among others.

LCCT has conducted over 190 industry-sponsored trials since 2001.


LCCT has secure drug and data storage facilities, clinical laboratory, pharmacy, and computer-related equipment (we can capture and transmit data electronically via a T1 Internet connection), refrigerated centrifuge, freezer (-20° C), refrigerator (2-8° C), EKG machine, and dry ice access.


Kashinath G. Yadalam, DFAPA - Principal Investigator (PI)
Twenty-three years of combined experience and certified as a Physician Investigator by the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators. Dr. Yadalam has conducted NIH-funded research and has published over 30 articles and abstracts.

Charles A. Murphy, III, MD - Sub-Investigator
Child psychiatrist for over 20 years with eight years of clinical trial experience.

Charles B. Woodard, MD, FACC - Sub-Investigator
Cardiologist with almost 30 years of experience who provides medical management for all of the study participants.

Sandra I. Viggiani, PhD - Sub-Investigator
Psychologist with over 10 years of clinical experience and three years of clinical trial experience.

Marnie G. Richard, PsyD – Sub-Investigator
Psychologist with over 10 years of clinical experience and two years of clinical trial experience.


Currently at LCCT, there are four Raters, three Clinical Research Coordinators, an office manager, Regulatory Affairs Specialist, two certified phlebotomists, and a lab/ECG technician, an inpatient coordinator, along with an office manager and administrative assistant, all of whom are employed on a full time basis. LCCT also has part-time staff to assist with regulatory responsibilities and other study-specific duties, as needed. All personnel have been thoroughly trained in Good Clinical Practice, and provide years of experience in the mental health field. Additionally, all Raters have been certified by Rater Qualifying Specialists in the use of diagnostic instruments and rating scales relating to the above diagnoses. LCCT also provides internship opportunities and supervision for doctoral (PhD) candidates on a rotating basis.


LCCT provides inpatient and outpatient treatment for child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.


LCCT utilizes central Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) to monitor the ethical conduct of clinical trials. We have experience working with multiple IRBs including: Western IRB, Copernicus Group, Schulman Associates, Aspire IRB, Quorum Review, Sterling IRB, BRANY IRB, and New England IRB. We also maintain a close relationship with the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital IRB to ensure the highest level of patient welfare for inpatient trials.
