Survey: 97% of companies to increase use of real-world patient data

Tuesday, November 14, 2017

The volume and diversity of data sources used in clinical trials are expected to increase significantly over the next three years, according to new research from Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development. In the second report from the 2017 eClinical Landscape Study, one of the largest, most in-depth surveys of clinical data management professionals, 97% of companies say they will increase use of at least one clinical data source to make faster, more accurate decisions during trials. Voice assistant technology poised to fundamentally transform clinical research

Monday, November 13, 2017

Within the next five to 10 years, patients enrolled in research studies will using voice assistant technology such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to interact with clinical trials. Experts expect that these voice assist devices will bolster patient engagement, and may eventually streamline the research enterprise for sponsors and site coordinators as well. On Wednesday, November 8, ICON demonstrated Amazon Alexa’s capacity to deploy a commonly used research questionnaire at the ISPOR 20th Annual European Congress in Glasgow, Scotland. According to Muehlhausen, controlled studies are “the next step” for ICON. “We have a pharma company that has already committed to run a scientific exercise in which we’ll compare Alexa versus an IVR system or a paper system.”

The Pistoia Alliance AbVance Project hits a key milestone

Friday, November 10, 2017

The Pistoia Alliance, a global, not for profit alliance that works to lower barriers to innovation in life sciences R&D, has announced that its project to increase knowledge of antibody (Ab) structures has reached its first major milestone—12 antibody structures have been deposited into the European Bioinformatics Institute’s (EMBL-EBI) Protein Data Bank (PDB). The goals of the project are to generate novel Ab structures and improve Ab structural data sharing across the life sciences. This will increase researchers’ predictive power and their ability to accurately model Ab structures; considerably reducing the time and cost associated with generating experimental data to support decision-making in drug projects.
