The Clinical Vision Research Center (CVRC) at the SUNY College of Optometry partners with industry, foundations and government agencies to conduct patient-based eye and vision research. The CVRC provides a dynamic research environment where advanced treatments can be rapidly tested and applied to enhance patient care. The CVRC’s unique capabilities include patient recruitment and project management, as well as the focused ability to deliver on a wide range of optometric and ophthalmic research studies. When working together with the SUNY University Eye Center (UEC), which has a large and ethnically diverse patient base this, gives us the ability to meet many recruiting requirements.
The CVRC's core research team is comprised of trained and licensed clinician researchers and clinical research support staff. The CVRC works closely with the University Eye Center (UEC), the patient-care clinic of the SUNY College of Optometry. The UEC boasts an interdisciplinary team of over 80 licensed optometrists and ophthalmologists, as well as nurses, social workers, and healthcare aides. In addition to our current faculty involved in clinical and translational research, the CVRC can bring in additional licensed clinicians or basic science researchers with topical expertise as needed.
Our clinical research trials have included the following industry sponsors: Alcon, Eleven Biotherapeutics, Essilor, Heidelberg Engineering, Johnson and Johnson Vision Care, Inc., Kala Pharmaceuticals, Shire, Smart Vision Labs, Topcon.
The CVRC is located in Midtown Manhattan, a transportation hub for all five NYC boroughs. The CVRC has designated research exam rooms, special testing areas, state-of-the-art diagnostic and testing equipment, locked storage areas, lab space, and private subject interview areas to facilitate all protocol and compliance needs.
In addition to the Director, the CVRC has an experienced and dedicated staff of research professionals. The staff includes an associate director, 2 research coordinators, 5 research optometrists, and a medical director (MD). The College also provides additional regulatory and finance administrative support.
