    Overview

    Founded by Dr. Stephen K. Tyring and Dr. Patricia Lee, Center for Clinical Studies (CCS) is a full-time, private outpatient research facility with two locations in the Houston, Texas, area. Dr. Tyring and Dr. Lee are principal investigators, and each has more than 25 years’ experience in conducting clinical trials. With more than 50 years of combined experience, Dr. Tyring, Dr. Lee, our Research Fellows and staff have specifically set new trends in medicine and changed the way all physicians treat various diseases. Our knowledgeable and experienced, full-time staff strives to provide outstanding patient care and is dedicated to making a difference in people's lives through quality clinical research.

    CCS conducts phase 1 to 4 clinical trials for the pharmaceutical industry and government as well as investigator-initiated studies. We are committed to providing accurate and detailed research in a timely and professional manner.

    • Refrigerated, programmable centrifuge;
    • Freezers (-20°C and -70°C), temperature monitored;
    • Refrigerators (4°C), temperature-monitored;
    • Access to dry ice;
    • Climate-controlled and secured drug and records storage;
    • Extensive, computerized patient database;
    • Private space for monitors with high-speed internet connection, phone, fax and copiers;
    • ECG equipment;
    • Experience with Canfield photographic equipment;
    • Crash cart;
    • CLIA-waived laboratory with processing space;
    • IATA-trained staff;
    • Ability to collect and store PK/PD specimens;
    • 3 private patient examination rooms at each location;
    • 37⁰ C incubator (for QuantiFERON – TB Gold test); and
    • All staff are CITI-GCP trained

    Investigator Experience

    Stephen K. Tyring, MD, PhD, MBA, is a board-certified dermatologist and virologist whose research interests include the therapy of various mucocutaneous diseases, especially those disorders with an infectious and/or immunological basis. He is an expert on herpes viruses, particularly shingles, the herpes zoster virus. Dr. Tyring has pursued these fields for more than 30 years and has successfully completed more than 300 clinical trials. He is an invited speaker at worldwide medical and public health conferences and is the author of more than 700 journal articles and book chapters as well as nine books. 

    In addition to his roles as medical director and principal investigator at CCS, Dr. Tyring holds the following current appointments:

    • Dermatologist, Dermatological Association of Texas
    • Clinical professor, Departments of Dermatology, Microbiology & Molecular Genetics and Internal Medicine (Infectious Diseases), University of Texas Health Science Center Houston
    • Member, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Texas Health Science Center Houston
    • Adjunct professor of biological sciences, School of Public Health, University of Texas Health Science Center Houston

    Staff Expertise

    Our team is comprised of full-time research coordinators (averaging six years of experience each); clinical research investigators (averaging 25 years of experience each); fellows; research assistants; and administrative, regulatory, recruitment and laboratory personnel with years of experience conducting clinical trials in a variety of therapeutic areas. Site managers ensure excellence at both our sites.

    Patients are drawn from the greater Houston metropolitan area, the fifth most populous metropolis in the U.S. With 2.3 million people in the city of Houston, we have a large and diverse population for potential participants.
