    Overview

    Under the direction of board certified, world renowned dermatologists Mark Nestor, M.D., Ph.D., and Brian Berman, M.D., Ph.D., the Center for Clinical and Cosmetic Research™ is South Florida's premier dermatology clinical research site. With over 60 years of collective clinical research expertise, Drs. Nestor and Berman conduct a variety of USFDA (DHHS), and investigator-initiated trials in all areas of dermatology and aesthetics.

    Nestled in the heart of beautiful Aventura, our well-established clinical research center is located in a state-of-the-art 8,000 square foot facility with 15 exam rooms. Our extensive photography room, large storage space, temperature controlled refrigerator/freezer, centrifuge, and CLIA certified lab enable our research staff with three physician research fellows to perform complex clinical trials. Our extensive database of over 1,000,000 patients allows our site to quickly find suitable participants.

    Mark Steven Nestor, M.D., Ph.D. - Director and Investigator

    Mark Steven Nestor, M.D., Ph.D., serves as Director of the Center for Clinical and Cosmetic Research™ and the Center for Cosmetic Enhancement® in Aventura, Florida. He is a Voluntary Professor in the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery and the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

    Dr. Nestor is recognized as a world expert in clinical research in most areas of clinical dermatology and aesthetics including acne, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, skin cancer, light therapies to treat skin disease, cutaneous laser surgery, photodynamic therapy, and radiation therapy. His aesthetic expertise includes lasers, RF and other devices, as well as the use of fillers and toxins. As Director for the Center for Clinical and Cosmetic Research, he has conducted more than 150 FDA and non-FDA clinical trials. He has authored over 100 articles and book chapters, has delivered over 900 major presentations around the world and is viewed as an internationally acclaimed lecturer and instructor of clinical and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Nestor has also directed over 100 meetings and symposia on various topics in the field of cosmetic dermatology, laser surgery and practice management. He chairs the Annual South Beach Symposium. Dr. Nestor also serves as a consultant to numerous pharmaceutical and device companies assisting them in the development of new medications, devices and cosmeceuticals.

    Dr. Nestor received his bachelor’s degree in Biology from The State University of New York, his Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology and Immunology from UCLA and his M.D. from UCLA School of Medicine. He completed his Internship in Internal Medicine at UCLA Medical Center and West Los Angeles V.A. Medical Center. He completed his Residency in Dermatology at New York University. He is the President of the American Cutaneous Oncology Society, a past President of the American Society for Photodynamic Therapy, the International Society for Cosmetic and Laser Surgeons, and Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Nestor has received numerous awards including an AAD Presidential Commendation, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Society of Dermatology as well as Research, Presentation and Teaching awards from the International Master Course on Aging Skin.

    Brian Berman, M.D., Ph.D. - Co-Director and Investigator

    Dr. Brian Berman is Professor Emeritus of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and has had the honor of serving as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology Association. He is immediate Past President of the American Dermatological Association. He has served as Professor of Dermatology and Internal Medicine at the University of Miami, Medical Director for Dermatology for inpatient and outpatients at Dade County’s Jackson Memorial Hospital, Professor of Dermatology and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at The University of California, Davis, Chief of the Dermatology Service at the VA Medical Center, Martinez, CA, and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. He is Secretary of the American Cutaneous Oncology Society, Secretary of the American Hyperhidrosis Medical Society, past President and the Founder of The National Association of Veterans Affairs Dermatologists, Chairman of the Dermatology Field Advisory Group for The Department of Veterans Affairs, and serves on the Scientific Advisory/Editorial Boards of The European Journal of Dermatology, SKINmed, Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, and SKIN.

    In addition to caring for patients at Skin and Cancer Associates in Aventura, FL, Dr. Berman is Co-Director of the Center for Clinical and Cosmetic Research he continues his broad-based clinical research program while focusing on the study of the control of scarring and skin cancer. He has presented at over 300 local, regional, state, national and international Dermatologic Societies and conferences. He is the author of more than 250 peer-reviewed scientific and clinical articles, chapters and books, is the recipient of the Dean’s Senior Faculty Clinical Research Award from the University of Miami School of Medicine, was bestowed the “Scientist of the Year” Award from Sigma Xi the Science and Research Honor Society and is included in U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Doctors in America”.

    Julie Ann Santos, PA-C. - Investigator

    Julie Ann Santos, PA-C., is a certified physician’s assistant with Skin and Cancer Associates and The Center for Cosmetic Enhancement®, in Aventura, FL. For the past 20 years, under the direction of Dr. Mark S. Nestor, she has performed a multitude of both clinical dermatologic and cosmetic enhancement procedures which include I & D’s, biopsies, D & C’s, excision and repairs, laser surgeries as well as oversee the clinical staff for the practice. Further, Ms. Santos is Sub-Investigator for both investigator-initiated and FDA Clinical Trials conducted by the Center for Cosmetic and Clinical Research™.

    Ms. Santos received her Bachelor of Science/Physician Assistant Degree from Nova Southeastern University, graduating with highest honors. Additionally, she has continued her training, receiving certifications in Clinical Research Training, and GCP Training from NIH, as well as certification by the National Commission for Physician Assistants. She has served as Sub-Investigator or Clinical Research Coordinator for numerous clinical trials.
