Hereditary Angioedema

Hereditary Angioedema is a rare genetic disorder that causes recurrent episodes of swelling in various parts of the body, including the face, limbs, genitals, and intestinal tract. The swelling can be painful and disfiguring, and can also lead to potentially life-threatening complications if it affects the airways. The condition is caused by a deficiency or dysfunction in a protein called C1 inhibitor, which leads to the overproduction of other proteins that trigger inflammation and swelling.
