Cystoid macular edema is a condition where fluid accumulates in the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. This results in swelling and distortion of the macula, leading to blurred vision and decreased visual acuity. Cystoid macular edema can be caused by a variety of underlying conditions, including diabetes, inflammation, and retinal vein occlusion.
