Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) is a complication of diabetes that affects the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. It occurs when fluid accumulates in the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. This can lead to blurry or distorted vision, making it difficult to read, drive, or perform other everyday tasks.
