Stem cell transplant is a medical procedure that involves replacing damaged or diseased blood-forming cells with healthy cells. The healthy stem cells are usually obtained from the bone marrow, peripheral blood or umbilical cord blood of a donor. The procedure is used to treat various types of blood cancers, such as leukemia and lymphoma, as well as certain non-cancerous blood disorders.
