Brief description of study

Seeking Oklahomans with High Blood Pressure who are 18 years or older.

Detailed Study Description

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is created when the heart beats, pumping blood to the arteries. Two forces create this pressure. The first force is created by the heart as it pumps blood into the arteries and through the circulatory system and the second by the resistance of the arteries to the blood flow.

Your heart beats about 60 to 80 times a minute under normal conditions. Your blood pressure rises with each heartbeat and falls when your heart relaxes between beats. The systolic (top) number represents the pressure while the heart is beating. The diastolic (bottom) number represents the pressure when the heart rests between beats. Your blood pressure should normally be less than 140/90 mm Hg. Blood pressure that stays above this level is considered high.
