Summary
Television viewing is a readily available leisure activity for individuals living in memory care facilities and their loved ones. Despite a large number of older adults living in memory care facilities, there is little research on the effects of television viewing in these settings, its role in social engagement with family members.
Our proposed research aims to explore the role of television viewing with regards to social engagement between residents of memory care facilities and their families. This study will use a cross-sectional design involving an online survey. In partnership with memory care facilities throughout Michigan, family members of residents will be recruited to participate in the study. The survey will explore factors primarily related to television viewing habits during family visits, and whether this activity facilitates connections between the resident and the caregiver.
This research has important implications for improving quality of life for those living in memory care facilities and their families.
Description
Respondents will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey via the Qualtrics Survey software. A link will be provided giving access to the survey. The respondents can complete the questionnaire on an electronic device, such as a phone, tablet, or computer. The survey consists of 20 questions and is expected to take 10-15 minutes to complete.
