Informal caregivers of persons who have been diagnosed with dementia play a substantial personal, social, and economic role in the care of a family member. However, this type of caregiving may effect a caregiver's psychological, physical, social, emotional, and financial well-being. This quantitative study addresses the potential relationships between caregiver burden, mindfulness and locus of control and measured by the Nowak & Guests Caregiver Burden Inventory, the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale and Rotter's Locus of Control Scale. The theories of social determination and social learning theory provide the theoretical foundation. The participants are 200 informal caregivers of persons with dementia living in the community (at home). Multiple linear regression and correlation analysis will be used to examine the possible relationships between the variables. Participants will be recruited through social media platforms.

The research design is quantitative correlational design which will be administered to adult informal caregivers of persons with dementia living in the community, to determine the relationship, if any, between the research variables. The measures that will be employed are the Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI)(Novak & Guest, 1989), The Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS)(Brown & Ryan, 2003), Rotter’s Locus of Control Questionnaire (LOCQ)(Rotter, 1966), and a demographic questionnaire. Saturation will be reached when 200 adult informal caregivers have completed the study materials. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship, if any, between perceived caregiver burden, mindfulness and locus of control.
