Description

English: Dementia has an enormous health and financial impact on individuals, families and the society as a whole. Dementia care can optimize the prognosis for patients and improve their families’ lives. Latinos experience substantial disparities in dementia care compared to their non-Latino white peers, putting them at an increased risk for steeper cognitive decline, morbidity, mortality and caregiver burden.
This project will address this research gap testing the feasibility and acceptability of Alianza Latina, a dementia care program to reduce disparities experienced by Latinos. Alianza Latina is a study to support Latinos with dementia and their family caregivers through personalized phone calls and text messages at NO COST. Family members will learn to care for themselves and their loved one with dementia. Everyone enrolled will receive Alianza Latina. The program will be preceded by a brief assessment at baseline and another one at 6 months (end of program). Family caregivers will participate in all assessments, text messaging and phone calls. If able, people will dementia can also participate in assessments and phone calls.
