Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative Online (PPMI online) is part of the broader
Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative aimed at better understanding who
gets Parkinson’s disease and why. PPMI online is a study collecting participant
reported demographic and health information online from people with and without
Parkinson’s disease. Once in the study, you will answer questions related to
various aspects of your health that may be related to your risk of developing Parkinson’s.
Whether you have Parkinson's or not, you are needed to find better ways to diagnose, treat, and even prevent this brain disease. This study is fully remote and currently based in the United States. PPMI is sponsored by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Visit www.PPMIonline.org
to get started today.
participate in the study, you will need an email address, and a computer or
smartphone with internet access. Once you are in the study, you will begin
answering questions related to various aspects of your health. These questions
will apply to you whether you have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s or not. You
will then receive emails every 90 days letting you know when it is time to come
back and answer questions again. If you know someone with Parkinson's, you can
help them answer PPMI questions, just make sure that you only input information
about that person.
While most people will never get Parkinson's, the data you contribute here online could help us understand who gets it and why. Anyone over the age of 18 in the United States is eligible, whether you have Parkinson's or not. You are especially needed if:
- You have a close family member with Parkinson's OR
- You act out your dreams while you're sleeping OR
- You've noticed a persistent loss in your sense of smell or you have a genetic mutation linked to Parkinson's OR
- You are a man over 60 years old
PPMI online has been designed to capture your data securely online, over time, using the internet. Depending on the information you provide, you may also be invited to answer different questions and to visit a medical clinical for additional testing. Participants in PPMI online may also be asked to participate in additional PPMI studies as they are developed.
study is expected to continue for several years. The longer you continue to
contribute data, the more value you can add to the study. As a study
participant, you will be kept informed over time of the scientific results you
are helping researchers to generate. PPMI online is currently taking place in
the United States but will soon expand to other countries. If you have
questions about this study, please email our team at firstname.lastname@example.org or call
