Type 2 Diabetes Study – Seeking Volunteers Who Treat with Any Combination of Medications, Except Insulin.

Summary

We are currently seeking volunteers who are diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and who are treating with any combination of medications including any of the following:
  • Metformin
  • Sulfonylureas (Glyburide, Glipizide, or Glimepiride.)
  • Glinides (Prandin or Starlix.)
  • DPP-4 inhibitors (Januvia, Onglyza, Tradjenta, or Nesina.)
  • SLGT-2 inhibitors (Farxiga, Invokana, or Jardiance.)
  • TZDs (Avandia, Actos, or Rezulin.)
  • Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors (Precose, Glyset, or Voglibose.)
  • Oral or injectable GLP-1 RAs (Byetta, Bydureon, Victoza, Trulicity, Tanzeum, Ozempic, or Rybelsus-[oral].) 

 This is a study of an investigational once weekly basal insulin, that may help improve blood sugar level control. Participants will be assigned to one of two groups: half of all participants will take the investigational insulin once a week and a once daily placebo, the other half will take a placebo once a week and Tresiba daily. 

Participants taking Sulfonylureas (Glyburide, Glipizide, Glimepiride) and Glinides (Prandin or Starlix) will stop taking them. Participants will continue taking their other diabetes medications. Participants must be willing to check their blood sugars at least once a day. 
 
Also, they must be willing to wear a blinded Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitor on their arms on 4 separate occasions during the study.


Description

Study Length: 32 weeks, with 13 clinic visits, and 17 telephone visits.

Target Age: 18+ years old.

Benefits: Study medication, study related physical exams, EKG’s, eye exams, lab work, a glucose meter, test strips and other supplies.

Stipend:
$1075 for study completion.

Inclusion Criteria

Must have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes for ≥ 180 days
Must have an HbA1c between 7.0 - 11.0%
Must be treating with any combination of medications including any of the following
Metformin
Sulfonylureas (Glyburide, Glipizide, or Glimepiride.)
Glinides (Prandin or Starlix.)
DPP-4 inhibitors (Januvia, Onglyza, Tradjenta, or Nesina.)
SLGT-2 inhibitors (Farxiga, Invokana, or Jardiance.)
TZDs (Avandia, Actos, or Rezulin.)
