Washington University seeks participants with and without metabolic syndrome for a research study.

Summary

Participants are needed for a research study at Washington University to determine whether the muscle tissue in people with metabolic syndrome or pre-diabetes is different than those without this condition.

Participation includes up to 2-3 outpatient and 2 phone study visits over 4-5 weeks. There will be a muscle biopsy, vital signs, oral glucose tolerance test, DXA scan, and blood tests.

Benefits and risks will be discussed with volunteers as part of the informed consent process. $500 is provided for time and effort upon completion.

Inclusion Criteria

Is your age between 18 yrs and 65 yrs?
Gender: Male or Female
Do you have any of these conditions: *Healthy Volunteers or Metabolic syndrome or *Healthy Patient Studies?
18-65 years of age
With OR without metabolic syndrome or pre-diabetes

Exclusion Criteria

Tobacco product use
Type 2 diabetes
History of cancer or other major illness
Clear my responses
