Cholesterol Study: Are You Currently Taking Cholesterol Lowering Medication?

Summary
A New Medication That May Help to Improve Cholesterol Levels and Help to Reduce Cardiovascular Risk.
We are currently seeking volunteers who are taking a statin for high cholesterol.
Example Statins: Atorvastatin [Lipitor] Rosuvastatin [Crestor], Simvastatin [Zocor] Pravastatin [Pravachol] Lovastatin [Mevacor, Altocor] Fluvastatin [Lescol] Pitavastatin [Livalo].)
This is a study of an investigational, injectable medication that may help to improve cholesterol levels and help to reduce cardiovascular risk.
Participants will continue taking their statin and will be randomly placed into 1 of 8 different groups: 7 out of 8 participants will be given the investigational medication; 1 out of 8 participants will be given a placebo. Participants will administer the medication once every 2 or 4 weeks. (Randomly assigned.)
Participants may be asked to maintain a daily diary. Participants will have two MRI’s performed during the study, one at the second visit and one at the end of the study. Participants will have to go to Bellevue Medical Imaging to have the MRI’s performed. We will provide the MRI location information at the screening visit.

Description
Visits and Compensation:
- The study period is 24 weeks (with a 12-week safety follow up appointment) and will require 14 clinic visits.
Compensation:
- Participants will receive the following at no cost: study medication, study-related: physical exams, EKGs, MRIs, and lab work.
- Participants will be compensated $1200 for completing the study.
