will participate in one-time caregiver training via zoom (3 hours). Caregivers
and care recipients will take pre-tests (5-10 minutes each person), conduct up
to one-hour life review session/per week for six weeks at home, and after the
6th week, will take the post-test (same as the pre-test). Caregivers will
receive fidelity check-in calls (15-20 minutes) with the Research Assistant once
a week for 5 weeks after each life review session. Caregivers will have a phone
interview with the Research Assistant together with the post-test.
Care Recipient: 65 years and older, long-term care facility resident
or community-dweller, has symptoms of early stage dementia and mild
Caregiver: adult 18 years and older, assist the care
recipient with Activities of Daily Living (ADL: bathing, feeding, dressing,
grooming, toileting, walking, transferring from bed to chair) or Instrumental
Activities of Daily Living (IADL: making phone calls, housekeeping, shopping,
meal preparation, driving or taking taxi or uber, managing medications, paying
bills) for 6 months or more.
There will be monetary incentives of $110 [at the completion of caregiver training ($50) and pre- ($20) and post-test ($20)] for caregivers and $40 [pre- ($20) and post-test ($20)] for care recipients.
