The Gut Microbiome in Children with Nephrotic Syndrome

Brief description of study

It is thought that the postnatal colonization of the gut influences later risk of allergic responses to food and impacts predisposition to immune-mediated diseases.

The study characterizes the gut flora in patients with nephrotic syndrome and compares them to age matched siblings, with the aim to link specific flora with presence of nephrotic syndrome.

The results of this study will shed light on both the cause and potential therapies for nephrotic syndrome and may reshape the way that nephrotic syndrome is prevented and treated.
