A Pilot/Feasibility Study to Measure Differential Gene Expression for Acute Ischemic Stroke

Brief description of study

This is an observational study aimed at measuring whole gene expression in peripheral blood drawn from patients with suspected acute cerebral ischemic stroke. Ischemic stroke is defined as an episode of neurological dysfunction caused by an infarction due to a focal ischemic injury as evident by objective measures such as imaging or pathology, or by persisting clinical symptoms.  The goal of the research is to identify differentially expressed genes in patients with confirmed ischemic stroke versus healthy controls and patients with other conditions that may mimic stroke.
