The purpose of this study is to determine whether music therapy can decrease the amount of pain and anxiety medication administered during a patient’s stay in the intensive care unit.

Inclusion Criteria

spinal deformity patients scheduled for spine surgery through the Baylor Scoliosis Center
admitted to BRMCP’s ICU immediately post-operatively
adults ages 18-85

Exclusion Criteria

uncorrected hearing impairment
patients who are currently enrolled in another study
patients who are admitted to other units immediately post-operatively
patient/family opting not to participate
