A Washington University Vitamin D Research Study Seeks Volunteers with Type 2 Diabetes.

Detailed Study Description

Dr. Carlos Bernal-Mizrachi is conducting a study to determine whether vitamin D supplementation in diabetic African-Americans with low vitamin D levels will reduce the progression of vascular disease. This study will take about 13 months to complete. There will be about 8 outpatient study visits (about 1 – 3 hours each). There will be blood draws, blood pressure monitoring, heart and blood vessel ultrasounds, 3 day food diary and questionnaires. Risks and benefits will be discussed as part of the informed consent process. Up to $330 is provided for time and effort.

Patient Inclusion Criteria:

  • 50 - 70 years old
  • African American
  • Type 2 diabetes

Patient Exclusion Criteria:

  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Chronic kidney disease
