Summary

You may be eligible to join the EMERGE STUDY if you

Description

  • Are between 18 and 75 years old
  • Have been taking a stable dose of pioglitazone ≥ 30 mg/day and metformin ≥ 1,500 mg/day (or the maximum tolerated dose or maximum dose specified on the label) for at least 12 months
  • Have had no treatment with insulin for longer than 1 week during the past 6 months
  • Have weighed about the same for at least 12 weeks
  • Agree to maintain you current diet and exercise habits throughout your participation in the study

If you decide to join the study, you will be asked to:

  • Take your study medication (by injection) once a week for up to 52 weeks
  • Atted up to 11 study visits during a 1-year period and participate in a follow-up telephone visit
  • Undergo study-related procedures, including:
    • Blood draws and urine samples
    • Physical examinations (including weight and waist/hip circumference measurement
    • Vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate)
    • ECG testing
    • Glucose testing
  • Monitor your glucose levels at home
  • Maintain a study diary
