Experts to Unravel Mysteries of Cell and Gene Therapy Trials at 2023 MAGI East
The burgeoning cell and gene therapy space continues to grow in importance and potential, with experts anticipating up to 13 new approvals granted by the FDA and EU in this market in 2023. Although more and more sponsors are looking to invest in this field of research, it’s still considered a risky and unproven market by some.
Cell and gene therapy development experts will explore the potential of this field at the MAGI Clinical Research Conference — 2023 East in Philadelphia May 21 to 24.
A 2022 article in Cell & Gene estimates there are more than 1,000 cell and gene therapy trials registered on ClinicalTrials.gov, exhibiting an average growth rate of 59 percent for gene therapy and 63 percent for cell therapy between 2010 and 2021.
But clinical trials of these products frequently come with their own unique requirements for biosafety, sites, equipment, training and ethical oversight, and experts say that skill gaps have led to a gridlock for clinical research in this space, creating a high demand for sites and staff with the capabilities to run these trials well.
Four of those experts will offer an introduction to cell and gene therapy research, as well as tips, tricks and best practices for safe, efficient study planning:
- Daniel Kavanagh, senior scientific advisor, gene therapy, WCG Clinical;
- Sean Fitzgerald, manager of biological safety and environmental health and safety, Hackensack Meridian Health;
- Lisa Kearns, senior research associate, Division of Medical Ethics, NYU Grossman School of Medicine; and
- David Weinstein, founder, Weinstein Rare Disease and Clinical Developmental Consulting.
