Total AAHRPP-Accredited Organizations Tops 200

March 31, 2010
CenterWatch Staff

The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) accredited six additional organizations, bringing the total number of AAHRPP-accredited organizations above 200. The latest accreditation recipients included three universities, two independent IRBs, and a teaching hospital system.

The organizations that received full accreditation are Columbia University of the City of New York, New York, NY; Sterling Institutional Review Board, Atlanta, Ga.; The Greenville Hospital System, Greenville, S.C.; The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio; and University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, Ill.

Harrison IRB in London, Ohio achieved qualified accreditation.

AAHRPP accredits organizations that conduct or review research with humans. Earlier this year, the organization made changes to its accreditation process, extending the time period between reaccreditations from three years to five. The organization also revised its reporting procedure to request more specific information about changes and catastrophic events, and made it possible for AAHRPP’s Council on Accreditation to request status reports and conduct limited site visits to organizations to verify standards-compliance efforts.
