Merck plans to close Inspire headquarters and cut jobs
May 17, 2011
With Merck’s purchase of Inspire Pharmaceuticals comes jobs cuts, relocation, and the closing of Inspire headquarters in North Carolina. It's unclear how many jobs will be cut, but senior Inspire executives are preparing to leave, the News & Observer reports.
Inspire’s has 175 employees, including about 60 at the headquarters in Raleigh, while Merck's North Carolina workforce adds up to about 1,000 and is located at two separate sites. "We expect some employees to be separated," Merck spokesman Ian McConnell told the newspaper.
Cuts will begin this month, McConnell said. "Several senior leaders are departing in May, and others will depart on dates to be determined as we go through the process of integrating the two organizations," he told the News & Observer.
