UPMC, a $10 billion integrated global health enterprise based in Pittsburgh, Penn., has selected Oracle Health Sciences applications and Oracle technology and hardware as a key part of the foundation for its new five-year, $100 million enterprise healthcare analytics initiative.

Oracle solutions will power the enterprise analytics initiative that will bring together data including clinical, genomic, financial, administrative and operational information from more than 200 sources from within UPMC, its health plan and other entities to drive truly personalized care that will yield better patient outcomes.

UPMC looks to achieve better patient outcomes, advance research and continually improve the quality of patient care while reducing costs. Early projects will focus on improving quality reporting and measurement across the health network, extending insight into the effectiveness of specific treatments and cost variations and improving disease prevention through predictive alerts.

To achieve its goals, the nationally acclaimed health system will deploy a wide range of Oracle solutions, including Oracle Health Sciences applications such as Oracle Enterprise Healthcare Analytics, Oracle Health Sciences Network. UPMC will also implement Oracle Fusion Analytics, as well as multiple components of Oracle Fusion Middleware, such as Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management to support cost-based accounting and Oracle Identity and Access Management Suite Plus to help ensure regulatory compliance and protect sensitive information.

The $100 million project includes a variety of hardware, software, training and other personnel costs. UPMC will build the analytical environment over the next two years to support the health system’s new Center for Innovative Science.

Terms of UPMC’s agreement with Oracle were not disclosed.
