The tranSMART Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing a global, open-source knowledge management platform for scientists to share pre-competitive translational research data headquartered in Wakefield, Mass., has announced that its platform won three awards at the Bio-IT World Conference & Expo April 21-23 in Boston, Mass., including Best-of-Show, Best Practices and Best Poster Awards.

The tranSMART Platform v1.2 won the Best-of-Show Award in the Informatics & Data Tools category honoring exceptional innovation in technologies used by life science professionals.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation won a Best Practices Award Judges' Prize for its use of the tranSMART platform in Parkinson's disease research working with Thomson Reuters. The Best Practices Awards highlight examples of technology innovation in the life sciences, from basic R&D to translational medicine. The tranSMART-based U-BIOPRED study was a 2014 Best Practices Award winner.

In addition to the Best-of-Show and Best Practices awards, the hyve, a silver member of the tranSMART Foundation, won the Best Poster Award at the conference for its poster titled "Multi-omics data analysis in tranSMART using the Cell Line Use Case dataset" in the Dutch CTMM Translational Research IT (TraIT) project.

"The success of the tranSMART platform is a direct reflection of the hard work, dedication and true collaboration of our scientific and IT community," said Keith Elliston, Ph.D., CEO of the tranSMART Foundation. "We are extremely proud to win the Best of Show award for the platform, but even more honored that two projects using the tranSMART platform won awards further validating the power the technology has to offer translational research."
