Sites facing mixed operating conditions

A new CenterWatch survey presents mixed signals about current operat­ing conditions at investigative sites and reveals a complex picture of a market in flux. Overall clinical trial volume and site profitability have grown, but at the same time, as drug development programs have become more complex and target smaller patient populations, competition has in­tensified for the pocket of clinical trial ac­tivity considered the “bread and butter” of the industry.

Growing role for AMC clinical trial offices

As federal funding for clinical re­search continues to decrease, aca­demic medical centers (AMCs) are strengthening clinical trial offices (CTOs) on their campuses. Though challenges run the gamut of turnaround time, stretched resources and faculty issues, rising benefits such as im­proved start-up times, new funding and expanding service offerings show that CTOs are gaining visibility and leverage within AMCs.
