MIT launches startup incubator The Engine
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has added its name to the list of organizations boosting startups, having now launched The Engine. The venture is designed to help fund and guide startups developing transformative technologies. MIT President L. Rafael Reif said the new initiative will help startups by supplying “the particular combination of resources they need to develop and bring to market innovations that address society’s most important challenges.”
Patient registry launched as an innovative tool to jump-start research for Castleman disease
The University of Pennsylvania, the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network (CDCN) and Janssen Research & Development have partnered to launch ACCELERATE, a patient registry designed to collect valuable information about Castleman disease, a rare disorder that puts the immune system on overdrive, resulting in enlarged lymph nodes and multisystem organ failure. The hope is that the registry will serve as a treasure trove of data to enhance understanding of all aspects of the disease, eventually leading to new studies and providing a ready source of patients for clinical trials.
