Trial Information
Summary: ACOSOG Z6041: A Phase II Trial of Neoadjuvant Chemoradiation and Local Excision for uT2uNO Rectal Cancer
You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have an early stage of cancer of the rectum. At the present time, your cancer appears to be limited to wall of the rectum and not to have spread. The purpose of this study is to test whether a combination of chemotherapy (drugs given to fight cancer) and radiation (a treatment that involves directing high-energy waves in the form of beams at cancer cells in order to kill them so they can no longer increase in number or size) before cancer is surgically removed with a procedure called local excision can effectively treat early stage rectal cancer. We also want to find out the effect that treatment has on bowel function and on quality of life. Your participation in this study is expected to last five years for treatment. After your treatment on this study is over, your medical condition will be followed for five years.
