Trial Information
Summary: SWOG S0221: Phase III Trial of Continuous Schedule AC + G Vs. Every 2 Week Schedule AC, Followed by Paclitaxel Given Either Every 2 Weeks or Weekly for 12 Weeks as Post-Operative Adjuvant Therapy in Node-Positive or High-Risk Node Negative Breast Cancer
You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have breast cancer that is considered to be at high-risk of recurring (returning). The main purpose of this study is to compare the effects of four different treatments (or regimens ) for breast cancer in terms of disease-free survival, overall survival and side effects. Laboratory studies will be done to see if there is a way to predict who will have the best results from treatment. Your initial treatment in this study is expected to last for 26 to 29 weeks. Subjects with estrogen receptor-positive or progesterone receptor-positive tumors will receive five years of hormonal therapy after their initial treatment. After your initial treatment is completed, we would like to examine you every six months for the first 5 years and then once a year for the next 10 years to see how you are doing. After 10 years, we will follow your condition for the rest of your life by reviewing your medical records once a year.
