Trial Information
Summary: Lung Cancer Tissue Donation Program
Patients 18 years or older, scheduled to have surgery for any
stage of non-small cell lung cancer, who have not had chemotherapy
in the past 6 months, may donate the excess tissue collected during
surgery that would normally be discarded. Please note that no extra
tissue will be removed during your surgery. Your surgeon will
remove the amount of tissue that is clinically indicated and we
will collect the excess tissue, which is not needed for diagnostic
purposes. The tissue will be studied to help understand factors
associated with lung cancer, the biology of lung cancer and the
factors that may make a difference in its development and/ or
treatment. Your tissue may also be stored at the NS-LIJ Institute
for Medical Research’s Biorepository for future research
studies.
In addition to agreeing to donate excess tissue, patients will
be asked to donate 2 or 3 tubes of blood before surgery, after
surgery and after chemo (if applicable).
