Trial Information

Summary: Phase I-II Trial of ZD1839 (IRESSA), Trastuzumab (Herceptin), and Docetaxel (Taxotere) in Patients with erbB-2 (HER-2) Overexpressing, Stage IV Breast Carcinoma

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have advanced breast cancer and laboratory studies showed that your breast cancer cells express the HER-2 protein.  The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety (side effects) and effectiveness of treatment with trastuzumab and Docetaxel and the investigational drug, ZD1839 on breast cancer that expresses the HER-2 protein.  Another goal of the study is to assess biological features of breast cancer tissue to see if response to treatment can be predicted.  Your treatment on this study is expected to last at least 9 weeks (three cycles of treatment) but may continue for as long as your tumor is responding to treatment and you are not experiencing any unmanageable side effects.  After you complete treatment, your disease status will be followed indefinitely.
