Summary: A Phase II Study of Weekly Taxol and Estramustine for Treatment of Prostate Cancer Micrometastases after Radical Prostatectomy or Salvage Radiation Therapy
This research study will evaluate whether there is benefit to
treating individuals with chemotherapy for a rising Prostate
Specific Antigen(PSA) as the only sign of recurrent prostate cancer
after a radical prostatectomy. If the treatment works, it may
provide a cure or prolong life or improve the quality of life.
There is no guarantee of benefit with participation in this study.
The medications used are Taxol weekly for six weeks for two cycles
and estramustine taken as a pill by mouth for 3 days every week for
six weeks for two cycles. There is no financial compensation for
participation in this research study.

Patient Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:
Patients who have had a radical prostatectomy for prostate
cancer and meet one of the following PSA criteria:
1)After initial treatment do not reach an undetectable level of
PSA;
2) PSA rises at least 2, but no more than 15 ng/dl;
3) PSA rises to 0.2 ng/dl may be eligible. Please call or e-mail

1. Pathologist finds prostate cancer in the lymph nodes at the
time of the prostatectomy;
2. PSA rises greater than 15 ng/dl;
3. Spread of prostate cancer outside the area of the prostate, (for
example, to the bone)seen on bone scan or CAT scan;
4. Hormonal therapy for prostate cancer within the past 2
years;
5. History of forming blood clots or blood clotting problems.
