Summary: A clinical research trial is underway evaluating the effectiveness of an investigational medication in the hope that it will improve the memory and other cognitive functions of people with Alzheimer’s disease.

A three-month double-blind, placebo-controlled trial comparing the investigational medication to another Alzheimer’s disease medication called Aricept® (donepezil) and placebo in people with Alzheimer’s disease who are not currently taking any medication for their Alzheimer’s disease. There is a possibility continuing for an additional three months during which time all participants will receive the trial medication.

Your loved one may qualify if he or she:

• Is between 50 and 90 years old
• Has a diagnosis of probable Alzheimer’s disease or has memory problems that may be a sign of Alzheimer’s disease
• Is not taking any medications for Alzheimer’s disease
• Has no history of cancer within the past three years
• Is able to attend all office visits
• Lives with, or spends substantial periods of time with, a regular caregiver who is willing to attend all trial visits, oversee compliance, and report on the loved one’s status
