Trial Information

Summary: RTOG 0534: A Phase III Trial of Short Term Androgen Deprivation with Pelvis Lymph Node or Prostate Bed Only Radiotherapy (SPORT)in Prostate Cancer Patients with a Rising PSA After Radical Prostatectomy

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have had surgery to remove your prostate and radiation therapy is recommended because your blood level of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) has been going up (the PSA is a value that helps determine the aggressiveness of your prostate cancer). The purpose of this research study is to compare the side effects and effectiveness of three treatment methods on participants and their cancer. Another purpose is to look at the quality of life of subjects receiving the different treatments. The treatment methods are 1) radiation therapy to the prostate bed only, 2) hormone therapy for 4-6 months plus radiation therapy to the prostate bed, and 3) hormone therapy for 4-6 months plus radiation therapy to the prostate bed and the pelvic lymph nodes. Your treatment on this study is expected to last 4 to 6 months depending on which treatment you are assigned to receive. After your treatment on this study is over, your medical condition will continue to be followed indefinitely.
