Trial Information
Summary: COG ARST0332: Risk Based Treatment for Pediatric Non Rhabdomyosarcoma Soft Tissue Sarcomas (NRSTS)
You have/your child has been asked to participate in this research study because you have/your child has a type of cancer called a non-rhabdomyosarcoma soft tissue sarcoma (NRSTS). You/Your child have had either surgery to remove the tumor or a biopsy of the tumor. These types of cancers are considered rare tumors and little is known about them. The purposes of this study are to:
• To define an approach to treatment based on risk level and to evaluate survival and treatment failure in subjects treated according to risk level
• To evaluate the feasibility (how easy it is to do) of giving chemotherapy and radiation to subjects with intermediate and high risk tumors
• To evaluate imaging tests, laboratory tests on biological specimens and other ways of diagnosing NRSTS and assigning risk category to see which methods relate best to treatment outcome
The length of your/your child’s participation on this study depends on which treatment you/your child receives. Subjects in treatment Group A will have surgery and will be observed during follow-up visits for at least 5 years. In treatment Group B, subjects will get radiation therapy for about 6 weeks and will be asked to return for follow-up exams for at least 5 years. Subjects in treatment Group C will receive the study drugs for about 5 months and will be asked to return for follow-up exams for at least 5 years. Treatment Group D subjects will be asked to take the study drugs for about 6 months and to return for follow-up exams for at least 5 years.
No matter which treatment you/your child receive, we would like to continue following your/your child’s health every year until all subjects enrolled on the study have completed 10 years of follow up. Collecting this information will help us understand the long-term effects of the treatment.
