Summary: Persistent Asthma - Adults

People with persistent asthma are asked to participate in a research study being conducted by Montefiore Medical Center.

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

• Are at least 18 years of age
• Have been diagnosed with persistent asthma

You may not participate in this study if you:

• Have bacterial or viral infection of the upper or lower respiratory tract, sinus or middle ear and/or exacerbation of asthma within 4 weeks of Visit 1
• Have a history of life-threatening asthma, defined as an asthma episode that required intubation and/or was associated with hypercapnoea, respiratory arrest or hypoxia seizures
• Have been hospitalized for an asthma exacerbation (within 6 months) or require treatment with systemic, oral, or depot corticosteroids (within 3 months)
• Have a neurological or psychiatric disease, history of drug or alcohol abuse, or a smoking history of 10 pack years or more
• Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to become pregnant during the study
• Have participated in another research study within the last 30 days
