Trial Information
Summary: Procurement and Research Evaluation of Human Blood and Tissues for Detection of Occult Malignancies Using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PRCR)
Patient - You have been asked to participate in this research study because you will be undergoing surgery for pancreatic cancer. The purpose of this study is to establish a sensitive DNA lab test for the detection of cancer. The presence genetic abnormalities in the surgical tissues margins (boundary of tumor removed from the body) will be compared to genetic tests from the primary cancer. With donated specimens, highly sensitive DNA tests are being developed to detect cancer cells in the blood and/or tissue. If successful, the results of this study may lead to improved diagnosis, staging, and treatment for future patients with pancreatic cancer. You will be followed for 5 years.
Donor - You have been asked to participate in this research study because you are a healthy adult and you are able to donate blood. The purpose of this study is to establish a sensitive DNA lab test for the detection of pancreatic cancer. With donated specimens, highly sensitive DNA tests are being developed to detect cancer cells in the blood and/or tissue. If successful, the results of this study may lead to improved diagnosis, staging, and treatment for future patients with pancreatic cancer. For this study blood from healthy people needs to be evaluated in addition to patients with pancreatic cancer. Our objective is to determine whether in tissues the detection of genetic markers found in pancreatic cancer patients can also be found in the tissues of healthy adults. Your participation in this study is expected to last for the duration of the blood donation.
