Trial Information

Summary: COG AALL03B1: Classification of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

You have/Your child has been asked to participate in this research study because you have/your child has symptoms of a cancer called acute leukemia that is suspected to be acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow (the soft tissue in the hollow of the bones that produces new blood cells). Registration on this protocol is a requirement for entry onto any Children's Oncology Group (COG) therapeutic study for children with newly diagnosed ALL. The purposes of this study are to collect blood and bone marrow specimens for laboratory tests to determine the specific subtype (as defined by specific or unique qualities) of your/your child's leukemia in order to determine the type and intensity of therapy to give you/your child. Another purpose is to learn more about the biology of leukemia, what causes leukemia and how effective different treatments are against it in order to improve treatment in the future. Your/Your child's participation in this study will last as long as the time required to obtain blood/bone marrow specimens and information from your/your child's medical records. If you are/your child is enrolled in a COG treatment study, your/your child's medical condition will be followed indefinitely to document the course of your/your child's disease status. This will involve continued clinic visits.
