Trial Information
Summary: Genetics of Dystonia
What is this research study about?
We use medical history information, family history information and genetic information to find genes that are associated with dystonia and to learn about what these genes do. We hope this research will determine what causes dystonia and how to develop new treatments.
What would I have to do?
First, you would talk with the research study staff about the research study and consent process. If you qualify to take part, we will ask you about your medical history, your family history and draw a family tree. Then you would give a blood sample.
All of this can be done at one appointment at Massachusetts General Hospital. If you live outside the Boston area, you can take part in the research study over the phone and through the mail.
What else do I need to know?
We get DNA from the blood sample. Your DNA is kept for many years. Research genetic test results are NOT given to people who take part in the research study. You will get no direct benefit from taking part in this research.
