Summary: Volunteers Needed for Research Study on Treatment of Asthma in Pregnancy
Researchers at the University of Kentucky Division of Allergy
and Immunology are conducting a research study to measure and
monitor breathing and airway inflammation in three groups of
pregnant women (healthy pregnant women, pregnant women with asthma,
and pregnant women who are smokers) and follow the health status of
their children at three yearly intervals after their birth. In
addition, they will test the effectiveness of exhaled Nitric Oxide
levels to determine dosage of steroid medications used to treat
asthma in pregnant women.
You may qualify for this study if:
- you are a healthy pregnant woman;
- you are a pregnant woman with asthma; or
- you are a pregnant woman who smokes five or more cigarettes a
day.
Participants will also receive a medical exam at no cost,
intensive monitoring of their asthma, and compensation for their
participation including travel time and costs. Participation in
this study includes five visits for the mother and follow-up visits
for the child at ages 1, 2, and 3.
