
Center Overview
We are a privately owned Clinical Research Center located in Columbia - the state capital of South Carolina. Our Physicians have privileges at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center, which is located adjacent to our facility. We can use either a local or central IRB for clinical research studies. Our center consists of 7 Board Certified OB/GYN physicians whose interests and experience lie in all aspects of women's health care. Our active private patient database exceeds 19,000 patients. We currently employ two full time certified Research Coordinators as well as a fully certified MLT who oversees our on-site clinical laboratory. We are fortunate to have our own fulltime information systems specialist to provide us with accurate documentable data reports when needed. The nearest major airport is Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) which is located just 6 miles from our Center. Hotel accommodations are located within walking distance. Our research center is adjacent to Palmetto Baptist Medical Center where we conduct in-patient studies.

Clinical Research Experience
Our center has experience conducting phase II-IV trials in the following therapeutic areas: genitourinary, immunology, reproductive surgery and endocrinology.
Sponsor companies we have worked with include: Bayer, Scirex, Pharmacia, Johnson & Johnson, Watson, Novartis, TAP, Astrazenica, Duramed, Pfizer, Lilly, and Berlex.

Facility Description
Our outpatient facility offers fully equipped exam rooms including ultrasound for a total of 18 rooms. We also provide CLIA certified lab services. We feature comfortable waiting rooms and free garage parking. Monitors are provided a private office complete with fax, telephone and copy machines. Refreshments are provided.

Investigator Experience
Past investigator experience includes the following clinical trials: Endometrial Hyperplasia, Contraception, Urinary Tract Infections, and Post-op Pain Management. Present experience includes: urinary incontinence, osteoporosis, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, vaginal atrophy, menopausal symptoms.
Harold A. Moore, M.D., CCTI
Dr. Moore is Board Certified in Gynecology and has been since 1972.
A gynecologist for over 28 years, his surgical interests include laparoscopic surgery, urogynecology, and pelvic reconstructive surgery. His private practice interest is in maintaining the general health of the aging female.
Alexander Smythe, M.D.
Dr. Smythe has degrees in medicine and pharmacy and is Board Certified in both Obstetrics / Gynecology (1980) and Maternal Fetal Medicine (1983). Dr. Smythe served as Director of the Perinatal Division for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, (1982-1985). He has published a number of articles including Ultrasonography, Medication use in Preterm Labor and Diagnosis of Fetal Anomalies. His high-risk pregnancy practice includes
ultrasonography, genetic counseling and amniocentesis. Over the years, Dr. Smythe has developed a great interest in infertility, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and operative hysteroscopy as alternatives to hysterectomy. His primary interests are fibroids, endometriosis, Pelvic pain and abnormal menstrual bleeding.
Mary K. Neuffer, M.D.
Dr. Neuffer is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1986.
She has been in private practice for over 15 years. Her medical interests include high-risk obstetrics, well women preventative care and hormone replacement management. Dr. Neuffer has experience as a research assistant at Clemson University, S.C.
Albert E. Odom, M.D., CCTI
Dr. Odom is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and has been
since 1989. He has served as Principal Investigator for a prominent pharmaceutical company study. He has extensive experience in gynecologic
surgery and procedures as well as general obstetrics.
Kathryn L. Moore, M.D.
Dr. Moore also completed her residency at Duke University and became Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1992. Her medical practice interests include management of menstrual disorders, treatment of abnormal Pap smears and hormonal replacement therapy. Her research history includes experience as a Post Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Kentucky and her Senior Research Project: "Patient acceptability and clinical accuracy of a
new endometrial sampling device, the Pipelle": 1990.
Myles D. Davis, M.D.
Dr. Davis has been Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1993.
His private practice special interests include adolescent gynecology,
treatment of endometriosis and high-risk obstetrics. His surgical interests
include laparoscopic techniques, management of urinary incontinence,
ectopic pregnancy and fibroids. Dr. Davis did his Post Doctoral Fellowship
in the Department of OB/GYN, Division of Clinical Research, University of
South Carolina School of Medicine 1986-1988. His research topic was the
"Association of Polycystic Syndrome with Endometrial Carcinoma".
John H. Moore, M.D., CCTI
After completion of his residency at Duke University, Dr. Moore became Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1998. Dr. Moore has varied surgical interests including the correction of incontinence and vaginal relaxation, endometrial ablation and minimally invasive laser laparoscopic surgery. He is
interested in contraceptive counseling, perimenopausal disorders and the surgical and medical management of fibroids, endometriosis and pelvic pain.
His research history includes experience on the undergraduate level
as a Thomas Jefferson Research Scholar at Washington and Lee
University and on the post graduate level in the division of Gynecologic
Oncology at Duke University Medical Center.

Staff Expertise
Clinical Research Coordinator: Margaret Mary Holt BSN, RNC, CCRC (Peggy)
Peggy became certified in Ambulatory Women’s Health in 1992, and has
been active in Clinical Nursing for over 25 years. Peggy is a member of ACRC and has worked as Lead Research Coordinator for two years. She is active in the recruitment, enrollment and regulatory documentation of participants in sponsor studies.
Danette Sullivan -Medical Laboratory Technician, CCRC
Danette has been certified by the American Society of Clinical
Pathologists as a Medical Laboratory Technician since 1988. She has worked as a Research Coordinator for two years. Danette supervises our on-site clinical laboratory, and is responsible for following established CLIA standards and practices.

Patient Demographics
Our active private patient database exceeds 19,000 patients. Our patient demographics include a diverse female population. Most patients are recruited from our physicians private practice. Our "downtown" location makes us easily accessible by public transportation. The University of South Carolina is also located within walking distance of our facility.

Other Information
Our Center prefers to use a central IRB but has the capability to use a local hospital IRB for in-patient studies. We work with local vendors for Mammograms, MRI and Bone Density study needs. We have access to dry ice and a -70° freezer.
