Clinical Research Experience
The McGuire Research Institute supports investigators with expertise in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology who conduct impatient and outpatient pre-clinical, phase I, II, III, and IV trials and outcomes research. The wide range of clinical research interests include:

Facility Description
The McGuire Research Institute is a non-profit organization associated with the Richmond Veterans Administration Medical Center, an 802-bed tertiary referral hospital affiliated with the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University. The annual revenue of McGuire Research Institute is over $2,000,000 in privately funded (CRO, pharmaceutical and biotech companies) trials and over $3,000,000 in government funded (NIH, VA, ADA) basic research.

Patient Demographics
Dr. Zieve's clinical population includes over 3,200 diabetics (principally Type II) and 1,100 patients under treatment for lipid disorders. The patient population draws from a variety of clinics including Lipid, D.C.C.T., Metabolic Bone, Diabetic, Geriatric, Endocrine, Diabetes/Lipid Pharmacotherapy, Hypertension and Diabetic Podiatry.
