Center Overview
To complement our long and successful research history with conventional and relatively common psychiatry disorders like depression, anxiety and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, we have expanded our knowledge on how to recruit and enroll patients with complicated psychiatric diagnoses. We conduct clinical trials with a diverse population of children, adolescents and adults.

Clinical Research Experience
We have the full capacity to conduct outpatient pharmacokinetic and neurocognitive studies. We have extensive experience in Phase II, III, and IV trials, in both adult and pediatric populations. North Carolina Neuropsychiatry has a history of exceeding enrollment in the majority of clinical trials we conduct. There is in-house monitoring for quality control and a research director who supervises the clinical coordinators and research staff.

Facility Description
North Carolina Neuropsychiatry, PA. Is a full-service medical psychiatry practice under the direction of C. Thomas Gualtieri, MD. It was the first clinic in the Southeast to specialize in medical psychiatry. The clinic began operation in 1977 as a branch of the Neuropsychiatry Research Project at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. For ten years, it was fully funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and clinical trials for the pharmaceutical industry were undertaken as an adjunctive activity. In 1988, the clinic moved to a separate facility and has been privately owned and operated since then, developing a full range of psychiatric services. We continue to develop satellite operations in areas around the state. Clinical trials represent a growing component of our operations.
The Chapel Hill NCN Clinic comprises 7,500 square feet of clinic and research space into two contiguous buildings off the I-40 Interstate. The Charlotte facility is located in Southeast Charlotte convenient to I-77. The Clinical Research Department has ample space for storage of study drug, CRF’s and regulatory documents, monitoring, and conducting patient visits.

Patient Demographics
Our clinical sites are located in metropolitan areas that are amenable to research recruitment but demographically quite different. Travel between the sites for monitoring purposes is easily accomplished by air, car or train. New patients are recruited through a clinic base of 5000 patients, as well as an established system of community contacts, referral networks and advertising outlets. We strive to be successful in meeting our enrollment goals within the anticipated time frame.
