Center Overview

UCLA Medical Center is a world renowned, research intensive academic institution with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that all trials, no matter how complex, can be conducted with ease. UCLA's School of Medicine includes a comprehensive range of specialty programs. The investigators, research coordinators and administrative staff offer the expertise needed to make clinical trials a success for sponsors and patients. In addition, the Office of Clinical Trials (OCT) serves as a centralized resource for all aspects of clinical trials at UCLA. The OCT staff acts as an interface between investigators, sponsors, and departmental personnel. The services provided by the OCT to both sponsors and investigators make the initiation and conduct of clinical trials at UCLA more efficient and timely. These services include:

  • helping the sponsor/CRO find an investigator appropriate for the trial
  • working with the sponsor and with the research staff to prepare budgets and to obtain IRB and contract approval
  • facilitating interactions with UCLA providers
  • supplying experienced study coordinators and data mangers to facilitate the study

UCLA’s reputation as a leading academic research center is unsurpassed, encompassing over 50 years of experience and thousands of research studies in several therapeutic areas including:

    Anesthesiology/Pain Management, Cardiology/Vascular Diseases, Dental/Maxillofacial Surgery, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Hematology, Immunology/Infectious Disease, Nephrology/Urology, Neurology, Nutrition, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics/Neonatalogy, Psychiatry, Pulmonary/Respiratory Diseases, Radiological Sciences, Rheumatology, and Surgery/Orthopedic Surgery.

Facility Description

The UCLA Medical Center, Outpatient Medical Clinics, Neuropsychiatric Institute, and Jules Stein Eye Institute are located on the campus of UCLA in Westwood, a 25 minute car ride from Los Angeles International Airport and within reasonable driving distance from Los Angeles city and suburbs, as well as Ventura and Orange Counties.

UCLA provides both inpatient and outpatient clinics, including the General Clinical Research Center, to conduct clinical trials. These areas are equipped with the latest technologies necessary to perform quality clinical research.

Investigator Experience

The UCLA School of Medicine includes experienced investigators in each of the therapeutic areas listed above. Our investigators collaborate and work in flexible multidisciplinary groups as needed to advance the science of art and medicine.

Staff Expertise

The staff in the Office of Clinical Trials has extensive experience in clinical research, including study coordination, data management, project management, business development, IRB/human subjects protection, and budgeting. With a combined total of over 50 years in research at UCLA, the OCT staff provides the expertise necessary to ensure the smooth and efficient initiation and conduct of the trial.

UCLA’s reputation for excellence and the wide variety of our patient care services attract a large, diverse patient population. Our location allows access to Southern California’s broad scope of subjects , encompassing a multitude of ethnicities, races, and disease states.
